Grodno Power Plant-2 as a result of the reconstruction will increase by 2012, electricity production by half and increase production efficiency. This was told by Chief Engineer of RUE "Grodnoenergo Yuri Shmakov, commenting on the signed contract with India to supply equipment for technical re-equipment plant. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus signed a contract worth $ 56 million with Indian company Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) for technical advice, supply and installation of equipment for Grodno Power Plant-2. India has offered a credit line for this project.

According to Yuri Shmakov, the Indian company will make all the main equipment supplier for the reconstruction of the station. So, BHEL will supply gas turbine unit of electrical capacity of 125 MW heat recovery steam boiler installation, booster station and an automated system to manage the complex. It is planned that the new equipment to be delivered to the station from the second half of 2010.

Commissioning of new capacities into operation is scheduled in the late 2011. The contract is the basis for implementation of the reconstruction project. Re-equipment of Grodno Power Plant-2 is carried out in accordance with the State complex program of upgrading basic production assets of the Belarusian power grid. As a result, reconstruction of power stations will increase from the current 180.75 MW to 305 MW. "With the commissioning of new power generation capacity at the plant will be doubled with a decrease in fuel consumption", - said Yuri Shmakov. This project will annually save the republic more than 100 tons of conventional fuel.
